How the Star Times teams are selected
Star Times all-area teams are chosen after the regular season by Seattle Times reporters, freelancers and editors. Selections must be from schools in King and Snohomish counties, or in the Metro and WesCo leagues.![]()
Kevin Moriarty
Shorewood, P, Jr.
The 6-foot-5 right-hander has used a 90 mph fastball to rack up a 9-1 record and lead the Thunderbirds (18-9) into the 4A state semifinals. He's already made an oral commitment to Gonzaga. His dad, Todd, pitched in the minor leagues in the San Francisco Giants' organization.
Andrew Groves
Kamiak, P, Sr.
What Groves lacks in size (he's 140 pounds), he makes up for in fearless attitude. The Bellevue College signee was 20-4 over his career, and this season he was 9-2 while leading the Knights into the Class 4A regionals.
Ethan Yeo
Inglemoor, C, Sr.
Led by Yeo's .375 batting average, the Vikings put together the best record in the KingCo 4A Crown Division. The first-team All-KingCo catcher finished the season with four doubles, two homers, 32 RBI and 18 runs.
Josh Sale
Bishop Blanchet, OF, Sr.
The two-time Star Times selection is the top professional prospect in Washington and is expected to be selected in the first round of the June MLB first-year player draft. Despite seldom seeing good pitches, he batted .520 with five homers, six doubles, 20 RBI and 27 walks.
Spencer Rogers
Issaquah, OF, Sr.
The University of Washington-bound outfielder wrapped up his final season of high-school baseball hitting a school-record .494 with 10 doubles, six stolen bases and 26 RBI. In addition to being the KingCo 4A MVP, he was 6-1 with a 1.92 ERA as a pitcher.
Willy Reel
Mercer Island, SS, Sr.
Reel's senior season has been one highlight after another. He hit a pair of grand slams in the second game of a doubleheader after driving in four runs in the first game. He then hit for the cycle against Sammamish, going 5 for 5. He batted .456 with seven homers and 27 RBI.
Stetson Olson
Kentridge, 3B, Sr.
Olson was rock-solid on offense and defense, committing only three errors in 62 chances. He batted .509 with 25 RBI and had a .658 on-base percentage. "Arguably the best player I have ever coached," said 16-year coach John Flanigan. A career .431 hitter, Olson has signed with Washington State.
Jerad Casper
Tahoma, 2B, Sr.
Casper crushed a school-record 13 home runs to raise his career total to 20. He batted .534 during the regular season with an off-the-charts 1.186 slugging percentage, 33 RBI and only three strikeouts. The three-year starter was also valuable on the mound with a 91 mph fastball.
Austin Voth
Kentwood, 1B, Sr.
Voth led the SPSL with a .645 batting average, had a 1.065 slugging percentage, and was named North Division MVP. Struck out once in 31 at-bats. He was also 3-1 with 1.14 ERA as a pitcher. The Washington recruit led the Conquerors to the 4A state semifinals.
Zach Corpuz
Kentwood, OF, Sr.
A .500 hitter in SPSL play, Corpuz is at his best with runners in scoring position, batting .625. He had nine extra-base hits and scored 22 runs in 15 league games. The All-SPSL North first-team choice is known as a tough-nosed competitor who plays the game the right way.
Ryan Brett
Highline, Utility, Sr.
The Gonzaga recruit is a possible high draft choice. A shortstop and relief pitcher, he batted .643 and slugged 1.290 through district play with 37 stolen bases. "I've been coaching for more than 30 years and I've never seen anyone like Ryan," Highline coach Dave Larson said.
Darren Rawie
Mount Rainier, coach
The Rams, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, went 16-0 to claim their fourth consecutive Seamount League championship and eighth in the past 10 years since Rawie took over the program. They have averaged 19 wins per season during his tenure and reached the state playoffs for the eighth time in the past nine years.
