Meridian, Cascade Christian in 1A boys final | 1A, 2B Basketball

Josiah Sebens' three-pointer with 1:43 to play pushed Meridian ahead to stay in a 41-36 victory over King's in the 1A boys basketball semifinals.

YAKIMA — Josiah Sebens sank a three-pointer with 1:43 to play that pushed Meridian ahead to stay, and the Trojans turned back King's of Shoreline 41-36 Friday night in the Class 1A boys basketball semifinals.

Zach Slesk, who scored a game-high 16 points, closed the scoring for Meridian (19-7) with three free throws in the final 32 seconds. Sebens finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ryan Hoff scored 10 points and Karl Clocksin had nine points and 11 rebounds for King's, last year's state runner-up.

Meridian will play Cascade Christian (23-3) of Puyallup for the title at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Yakima SunDome. Cascade Christian beat defending champ Vashon in the other semifinal, 57-48.

King's (21-7) will play Vashon (22-4) for third.

Cody Shackett scored 19 for No. 5 Cascade Christian. John Gage had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Pirates.

Other 1A boys

Bellevue Christian 55, Onalaska 52 (loser out)

David Downs' 24 points helped the Vikings (19-7) stay alive. B.C. made 28 of 46 foul shots against the Loggers (25-2). Chris Pattison added 12 points and made a key steal with 19 seconds left to seal the victory. The Vikings play Granger for fourth.

1A girls

Granger 64, Connell 35 (semifinal)

Italia Mengarelli scored 20 points and Granger raced to a 17-0 lead on the way to a spot in Saturday's final. The third-ranked Spartans (24-1), last year's state runners-up, will face Freeman.

Freeman 50, Lynden Christian 32 (semifinal)

Korina Baker scored 15 points to lead the third-ranked Scotties (25-1) past the No. 2 Lyncs (23-4). Freeman raced to a 17-6 lead.

Bellevue Christian 45, Nooksack Valley 38 (loser out)

Alina Valle scored 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and had a pair of three-pointers as the Vikings (20-6) eliminated the Pioneers (16-12). Bellevue Christian meets Seattle Christian for fifth place.

Seattle Christian 44,

Vashon Island 29 (loser out)

Lexi Petersen had 17 points and Katie Collier grabbed 22 rebounds to help top-ranked Seattle Christian (23-3) oust Vashon (19-9).

2B boys

Pe Ell 52, Davenport 45 (semifinal)

At Spokane Arena, Hank Robinson hit the go-ahead basket with 5:15 left as the Trojans (22-5) advanced to the finals and derailed the Gorillas' hopes of returning to the championship game. Cole Evers had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Davenport (22-6).

Liberty Christian 62, La Conner 59 (semifinal)

Cody Brockman scored 25 to lead the Patriots (21-2) to the title game. Brandon Willey, who scored 19 for LaConner (19-4), missed a three-pointer that would have sent the game into overtime.

Bear Creek 74, Life Christian 70, OT (loser out)

Rashaan McKee forced overtime with a basket for Life Christian (18-13) with one second left in regulation, but Jamie Meyer's three-pointer with 23 seconds to go in overtime clinched a victory for the Grizzlies (21-2). Meyer had 24 points and hit 4 of 5 three-point attempts for top-ranked Bear Creek (21-2) of Redmond, which will play Colfax for fifth.

2B girls

La Salle 45, Napavine 27 (semifinal)

The top-ranked Lightning (21-2) from Union Gap forced 21 turnovers by Napavine (19-4) to overcome poor shooting.

Colfax 42, Toutle Lake 33 (semifinal)

Kayla Johnson, last year's tournament MVP, scored 24 points to give the Bulldogs (20-3) a chance to defend their championship.

Entiat 51, Evergreen Lutheran 40 (loser out)

Malanie Laete had 14 points and nine rebounds for Evergreen Lutheran of Des Moines, but the Eagles (16-7) shot only 32.6 percent in a season-ending defeat.
