WOODINVILLE — Ziad Aziz went into Tuesday's first-round KingCo 4A Tournament game with one objective: Slow down Eastlake's Michael Russo.
However, with the game on the line and the clock winding down in overtime, Aziz found himself with a chance to contribute on the offensive end as well.
He caught a pass in rhythm and hit a three-pointer with three seconds left that gave Woodinville a 56-53 boys basketball victory over the Wolves.
"I just wanted to elevate and get that one in," said Aziz, who had 10 points and five rebounds. "It did. It hit the bottom of the net."
The Falcons next play Skyline in the semifinals at Juanita High School at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
Aziz's was the last of several big shots from outside. First, there was Micah Ulland, who drilled a three late in the first quarter that gave the Falcons (14-7) their first lead.
But, as the period expired seconds later, Chad Marxen buried a three from half-court for the Wolves. That was the start of a 12-2 run for Eastlake (13-8) that put Woodinville on the ropes.
In the second half, though, Woodinville rallied. After scoring 13 points in the first half, Russo was held scoreless the rest of the way with Aziz shadowing the Wolves' standout.
"If we beat him (Russo), we beat Eastlake," Aziz said. "It just all came together. I'm so excited."
Taylor Tarabochia, who scored nine of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, hit a layup to force overtime and then hit a three in the extra period to give Woodinville the lead.
However, Conner Iraola hit a three for Eastlake to tie it and set up Aziz's big shot.
"I'm so happy for my guys," Woodinville coach Jamie Rowe said. "They've just been battling and battling. It was nice to see us continue to keep it going. I love these guys. They just compete."

When Aziz elevated for the winning three, Tarabochia had a feeling it was going in.
"Our team has really come down to, at the end, where someone has to hit a shot," he said. "We always execute and I love it."
