Joshua Smith returns to action for Kentwood | Prep Basketball Roundup
UCLA-bound center Joshua Smith scored 10 points in his first game since being injured Dec. 8, helping Kentwood beat Tahoma 61-37.
MAPLE VALLEY — Joshua Smith, Kentwood's UCLA-bound center, scored 10 points in the Conquerors' 61-37 boys basketball victory over Tahoma Tuesday night — his first game since being injured last month.
Smith, a 6-foot-10 senior ranked No. 1 in the nation at his position by some recruiting services coming into the season, played for the first time since Dec. 8. Smith sufferred a partially torn patellar tendon in the Conquerors' second game of the season, a loss to top-ranked Federal Way.
Smith signed a letter of intent last month to play for UCLA, after also considering Washington.
Other boys highlights
• Kentridge junior guard Gary Bell scored 38 points with six rebounds, five assists and three steals in the eighth-ranked Chargers' 70-56 SPSL South win over Jefferson. Bell, who scored a season-high 55 in an overtime loss to Auburn Riverside last month, lifted his scoring average to 25.9.
• Meadowdale, ranked ninth in 3A, got another big night from 6-7 Connor Hamlett, who had 28 points in the Mavericks' 57-51 WesCo South boys win over Lynnwood.
• Bainbridge senior guard Will DiIorio had 25 points, 17 rebounds and five steals in an 83-66 Metro League win over Cleveland.
Girls highlights
• Sophomore post Caitlin Carr of Auburn Mountainview piled up 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Lions' 71-38 SPSL 3A girls rout of Clover Park.
