Prep Football | 2B: Adna takes down Colfax in final, 32-24
Kyle Grosshans capped the 32-24 win with an interception to give third-ranked Adna its first state title in 20 years Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

TACOMA — Two yards stood between Kyle Grosshans and a state championship.
With a 26-24 lead and 43 seconds left in the Class 2B (11-man) football title game, Adna faced fourth-and-2 at the Colfax 32-yard line. The Pirates' quarterback looked to the bench and pointed at his chest.
"I want the ball," he said. "I know I can get two yards. I'm going to give everything I can to get those two yards to make sure we win."
Grosshans got the call, and picked up the two yards and 30 more en route to the end zone. On the ensuing defensive possession, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior capped the 32-24 win with an interception to give third-ranked Adna its first state title in 20 years Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
"It has been a long time, 20 years, but these guys are warriors," said Pirates coach KC Johnson. "I'm so proud of them."
After trailing early, Adna (13-0) went on a 26-3 scoring run to take a 26-10 lead in the third quarter on Bubba Lara's 3-yard TD run.
But top-ranked Colfax (12-1) battled back.
Tyler McNannay made it a one-possession game on a 4-yard touchdown catch from Alex Teade. McNannay added a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to make it 26-24. A two-point conversion pass attempt failed.
"The guys played hard," said Bulldogs coach Mike Morgan. "They didn't leave anything out on the field."
Colfax's comeback attempt took a hit late in the game when its quarterback, Teade, suffered a concussion while playing defense.
Morgan made no excuses.
"Adna played just a terrific ballgame," he said. "They were everything that we expected them to be. They were tough, hard-hitting, good kids. They are very deserving of this honor."
Adna's Anthony Tatum had 119 yards rushing and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving). Grosshans had three scores — two passing and the clinching TD run.
"This is the greatest moment I've ever felt," said Tatum, who wore a Superman T-shirt underneath his jersey. "This is something I've wanted to do since I was a little boy and I finally did it my senior year."
