AUBURN — Chris Young was recruited to the University of Washington as a safety.
But the Auburn senior is a pretty effective high-school running back, too.
Young carried 13 times for a school-record 284 yards and six touchdowns as the Trojans, ranked third in the state, hammered Auburn Riverside 52-14 in their final regular-season game Friday night at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
Young broke the rushing record set by Joe Erickson in 1998, and tied a school record for touchdowns.
The game was a tuneup for the Class 4A round-of-32 preliminary playoffs. Auburn (9-0, 8-0) will host a game next weekend, with the winner advancing the first round Nov. 13-14.
