AUBURN — Chris Young was recruited to the University of Washington as a safety.

But the Auburn senior is a pretty effective high-school running back, too.

Young carried 13 times for a school-record 284 yards and six touchdowns as the Trojans, ranked third in the state, hammered Auburn Riverside 52-14 in their final regular-season game Friday night at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

Young broke the rushing record set by Joe Erickson in 1998, and tied a school record for touchdowns.

The game was a tuneup for the Class 4A round-of-32 preliminary playoffs. Auburn (9-0, 8-0) will host a game next weekend, with the winner advancing the first round Nov. 13-14.

Other 4A games

No. 4 Jackson 28, Cascade 18

At Everett Memorial Stadium, Andy Gay threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score as the Timberwolves completed the regular season unbeaten. Gay was 13 of 18 for 199 yards without being intercepted. Aaron Miller had 19 carries for 105 yards for Cascade.

No. 8 Marysville-Pilchuck 49, at Oak Harbor 28

Austin Denton was unstoppable for Marysville-Pilchuck, gaining a career-high 323 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns as the Tomahawks wrapped up a perfect WesCo North season. It was Denton's eighth 200-yard rushing game this season.

No. 9 Bethel 48, Spanaway Lake 7

At Art Crate Stadium, Anthony Meray set an SPSL record for all-purpose yards in a season while gaining 159 on 15 carries and scoring five touchdowns for the playoff-bound Braves.

Chris Clark passed for 238 yards and two TDs, and Jordin Kinnune threw for a TD on a double pass and had 8 catches for 136 yards for Mount Si.

Notes

Joe Cerne intercepted two passes and returned one 28 yards to the 1-yard line, setting up the only touchdown as Enumclaw clinched a playoff spot and beat White River 10-0 in the annual "Battle of the Bridge" game in the SPSL 3A.

• Stanwood claimed a playoff spot from the WesCo North by beating Arlington 21-14 in the 38th annual Stilly Cup.

Ryan Bergman passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns, leading Issaquah past 28-21 in KingCo 4A. Woodinville trailed 28-7 in the fourth quarter, but scored and recovered an onside kick to set up another touchdown. The Falcons had four shots at the end zone from the 20-yard line at the end of the game but couldn't convert.

• Freshman Chris Brown completed 22 of 36 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown in his first start at quarterback for Bonney Lake, which beat Sumner 38-7.

Brennan Frost of Lake Stevens topped 1,000 rushing yards for the season by pounding out 239 on 23 carries, and he scored three times as the Vikings beat Snohomish 25-13 in the WesCo North.
