Prep Volleyball | Mead captures big volleyball tourney
At the fifth Crossover Classic volleyball tournament Saturday, top-ranked Mead of Spokane beat Idaho powerhouse Sandpoint in the championship 19-25, 25-21, 15-13, at Ferris High School.

SPOKANE — At the fifth Crossover Classic volleyball tournament Saturday, top-ranked Mead of Spokane beat Idaho powerhouse Sandpoint in the championship 19-25, 25-21, 15-13, at Ferris High School.
No. 6 Auburn Riverside was the furthest-advancing local team in the tournament, losing in the semifinals to Sandpoint in three hard-fought sets, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13.
Mead beat district-rival Mount Spokane, the third-ranked Class 3A team in the state, in the semifinals 27-25, 25-19.
The 16-pool tournament included many of the state's best teams, including in the 4A classification: No. 3 Graham-Kapowsin, No. 5 Skyview of Vancouver, No. 7 Kamiakin of Kennewick, No. 8 Richland and No. 9 Lewis and Clark of Spokane.
The other 3A ranked teams competing were No. 1 Bishop Blanchet, No. 5 Camas and No. 7 Prairie of Brush Prairie.
Action on Saturday began at 8 a.m. at four different high-school campuses in Spokane: Lewis and Clark, Shadle Park, Rogers and Ferris.

• No. 6 Kennedy Catholic won the Mount Vernon Invitational by beating Lynden Christian in the final, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11. Jennica McPherson led the Lancers with 59 kills in six tournament matches and Katie Key had 113 assists.
