SNOQUALMIE — Lots of offense. Not much to show for it. But a big victory, nonetheless.
That's the story of Issaquah's 14-13 come-from-behind win against Eastlake on Friday. Playing at Mount Si because their home field is being renovated, the Eagles made push after push into Eastlake territory only to come away empty-handed.
But with the game on the line and a share of first place in the KingCo 4A Crest division hanging in the balance, Issaquah drove 58 yards in 13 plays to score the winning touchdown.
Taylor Wyman, who carried 29 times for 124 yards, scored his second touchdown of the game from 2 yards out with 3:19 to play, and Gavin Schumaker booted the go-ahead PAT. Issaquah's defense nabbed an interception on the ensuing possession to seal it.
"Anytime you can win and not play your best game you're pretty happy," Issaquah coach Chris Bennett said. "We'll kick ourselves in the morning and they'll kick themselves, but this is a huge win for our kids. We treated it like a playoff game, and they did, too."
Having lost two in a row to start the season, Issaquah (3-2, 2-0) remains tied atop the division standings with No. 1 Skyline.
Tied at 7 heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles fell behind when Eastlake running back Cameron Hunt scored on a 72-yard burst to put the Wolves up 13-7 after a missed PAT. Issaquah then marched all the way to the Eastlake 23, but fumbled away a fourth-down snap.
A three-and-out by the Wolves gave Issaquah the ball back with 7:40 remaining, and senior quarterback Ryan Bergman converted on fourth-and-nine from the 44 and third-and-five inside the red zone with a couple of precision passes to Evan Peterson. Bergman, a senior, finished the game 18-of-32 passing for 184 yards.
"To go the length of the field and score when you need to, that's huge," Bennett said. "He's a calm kid, and he moved the ball well for us tonight."
Hunt added a 57-yard score and rushed for 149 yards on 14 carries for Eastlake (3-2, 0-2).
