YAKIMA — Cory Urquhart of West Valley was a hometown hero Sunday, tripling in the ninth inning and scoring the winning run to lift Team Adams to a 2-1 victory over Team Rainier in the championship game of the All-State Baseball Series for high-school seniors.
Team Adams scored in the eighth and ninth innings. Travis Cook of Cedarcrest and Kelvin Ketchum of Beamer each had tossed three shutout innings to help Team Rainier lead 1-0 going into the eighth.
Urquhart was named offensive player of the game. Curtis outfielder Kyle Phillips won the defensive award.
Puyallup's Kody Stone pitched the final two innings for the win. He retired Team Rainier in order with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Home runs by Richland's Brett Jacobs and Naches' Thomas Wilcox powered Team Baker to a 13-0 win over St. Helens in the consolation game.
