YAKIMA — Tommy Edwards and Craig Chittendon hit two-run singles to key a seven-run fourth inning as Cedarcrest beat Selah 10-6 Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium for the Class 2A state baseball championship.
The victory gave the Red Wolves (23-5) from Duvall their first baseball title after three consecutive appearances in the semifinals.
Two years ago, Cedarcrest lost to Selah in the semifinals, 3-1.
Saturday night, Travis Cook added an RBI double in the big fourth, when Cedarcrest capitalized on four Selah errors, a wild pitch and a walk.
Cook, a Washington State signee who pitched Cedarcrest into the finals with a four-hitter in a 12-1 victory over Othello Friday night, had two doubles and drove in four runs in the title game.
Cook smacked a bases-loaded double to center field in the top of the first inning to put Selah in an early hole.
The Red Wolves made the most of their eight hits. Five were for doubles — two by Cook and three by Edwards.
Cam Padron started on the mound and took a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth before running into trouble. Selah knocked him out with a five-run inning. Mark Bishop relieved him and allowed only one Selah hit the rest of the way, in the seventh.
