PORTLAND, Ore. — Avery Bradley scored 21 points, but it wasn't enough for the USA Junior National Select team in a 97-89 loss to the World team in the Nike Hoop Summit basketball game Saturday night.
Serbia's 6-foot-9 Milan Macvan scored 23 and Lithuania's 7-foot Donatas Motiejunas added 21 as the World 19-and-under team got its first victory in the series since 1998, when Dirk Nowitzki led the foreign stars.
Bradley, a 6-3 guard who has signed with Texas, played until this season with Abdul Gaddy at Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma. Gaddy, also a 6-3 guard, is the Washington Huskies' prize recruit and was also on the U.S. team.
Bradley, a Puyallup resident, transferred this season to Findlay Prep of Henderson, Nev.
The USA team has typically been a mismatch for its foreign opponent but this time was an exception. The taller World team had a whopping 48-29 rebounding advantage to beat Team USA for only the third time in 12 meetings.
The U.S. was led by 6-6 Xavier Henry's 22 points and six three-pointers. Guard John Wall had 13 points and 11 assists for the U.S.
