YAKIMA — Katie Collier sank four free throws in overtime, lifting top-ranked Seattle Christian past Granger 55-53 Saturday night in the Class 1A girls basketball final. The Warriors captured their first state championship.
Granger's last shot hit the rim and bounced off, and time expired before the Spartans could get another shot.
The 6-foot-2 Collier, a freshman, had 15 points and 12 rebounds and older sister Melissa Collier scored 18 for Seattle Christian (26-1). Lexi Peterson added 14 points.
"We thought this morning she might not be able to go," coach Bob Kickner said of Melissa Collier, who had a 101-degree temperature Saturday morning. "This morning she was looking like she'd just gotten back from a trip to the tanning bed — that's how red she looked.
"But she's my senior captain, and you were not going to be able to keep her out of the game. No way.
Seattle Christian had to rally after Granger sank seven three-pointers while building a 31-20 halftime lead.
The Warriors took their first lead when Peterson drained a three-pointer to put them up 50-48 with 3:11 remaining.
Janae Klarich, the tournament MVP, hit four three-pointers and scored 13 points for Granger.
Gage powers Vashon boys to championship
YAKIMA — Tournament MVP John Gage collected 20 points and 15 rebounds as top-ranked Vashon crushed King's 49-24 Saturday night at the Yakima SunDome, capturing the school's first state boys basketball championship.
Vashon (26-1) was ranked No. 1 in the state from the start of the season, and did nothing to disprove it. The Pirates' only loss was a two-point defeat to Class 5A Roosevelt of Portland in December.
"We thrived with it," the 6-foot-9 Gage, a junior, said of the state's top ranking. "We loved being No. 1, coming out every night and playing as hard as we could."

King's coach Bill Liley was impressed by Gage.
"He's a Pac-10 basketball player. We ran into two of those this week," he said, referring to Gage and Chelan's Joe Harris. "We slayed one of the giants, but we couldn't get the other one."
Nor could the Knights do anything against the Pirates' long-armed, quick, active defenders. They were 9 for 48 (18.8 percent) from the field, and even sharpshooting Ryan Hoff, who had riddled three previous defenses from long range, finished 0 for 9.
King's (20-8) was held scoreless over a 12-minute stretch, including the entire third quarter. The Knights' 24 points were the lowest total ever scored in a championship game, and the 25-point margin was the third largest in tournament history.
Thomas Timm-Skove added 13 points for Vashon.
Other 1A boys
Port Townsend 47, Bellevue Christian 45 (3rd-6th)
Dakotah Pine's baseline jumper with two seconds left gave Port Townsend (23-4) third place. Jeff Rerucha scored 19 for Bellevue Christian (19-8), which earned its fifth consecutive trophy.
Brewster 61, Seattle Academy 49 (4th-7th)
Eli Driessen and Wade Gebbers had 19 points apiece as the Bears (24-6) finished fourth. Rian Claxton scored 16 for Seattle Academy (15-13), which took its first state trophy.
Other 1A girls
Lynden Christian 55, Bellevue Christian 39 (4th-6th)
The third-ranked Lyncs (24-2) led by as many as 30 and cruised. Terra Oldham scored 13 and Michelle Teng 12 for the No. 9 Vikings (22-5).
2B boys
NW Christian (Colbert) 54, Davenport 39 (championship)
In Spokane, the Crusaders (28-0) claimed their fourth consecutive state title behind tournament MVP Chase Ramey's 22 points. Matt Zandbergen added 15 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Morgan scored 14 for the Gorillas (20-8).
2B girls
Colfax 56, Napavine 35 (championship)
Kayla Johnson, the tournament MVP, had 23 points, 11 rebounds and three steals as the No. 4 Bulldogs (26-2) handed top-ranked Napavine (25-1) its first loss. It was the fifth championship in six years for Colfax, which won consecutive titles in 2004, '05, '06 and '07.
Northwest 3A boys
Lynnwood 42, Shorecrest 32 (winner 2nd to state, loser out)
Jared Milne got all of his 10 of his points in the third quarter as the Royals (14-12), who were 0-3 against Shorecrest (14-12) during the regular season, advanced to state for only the third time. Lynnwood has gone to state only in 1986 and 2006.
Northwest 2A girls
Archbishop Murphy 53, Lynden 33 (1st-2nd, both to state)
At Squalicum High School in Bellingham, second-ranked Archbishop Murphy (23-0) built a 15-points halftime lead and crushed No. 4 Lynden for the district title. Both teams advance to the state tournament, which starts Wednesday in Yakima. Shelby Lyman's 10 points led the Wildcats.
