Prep Roundup | Archbishop Murphy wins football opener 56-7
Unbeaten, second-ranked Archbishop Murphy crushed Black Hills 56-7 in a first-round Class 2A football playoff game.
EVERETT — C.J. Milburn ran for a pair of first-half touchdowns as Archbishop Murphy built a big early lead and crushed Black Hills of Olympia 56-7 Friday night in a first-round Class 2A football playoff game Friday night at Goddard Stadium.
The second-ranked Wildcats (11-0) from Mill Creek, who didn't make the playoffs last year after forfeiting eight games because of an ineligibility ruling, will meet ninth-ranked Centralia next week in the quarterfinals. Centralia beat Sequim 21-14 Friday night.
Milburn carried six times for 69 yards, Alex Martinez added 72 yards on five carries and Randy Gordon had 70 yards on eight carries as Archbishop Murphy ran at will against 10th-ranked Black Hills (7-4).
Jake Downs' 50-yard touchdown pass to J.D. Melton put the Wildcats in command 28-7 at halftime.
King's reaches soccer semifinals
SHORELINE — King's broke through for three goals after a scoreless first half and rolled into the Class 1A girls soccer semifinals with a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Overlake Friday at Woolsey Stadium.
Sophomores Kelsey Christianson and Christina McCormick and junior Hillary Quinn found the net for the young Knights (19-2), and Kendal Thoreson had two assists. Goalkeeper Carolyn Dapper got the shutout.
King's has placed fourth and third at state the past two years.
In the semifinals next Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner, King's will face the winner of today's quarterfinal game between Seattle Christian and Montesano.
