A fundraising effort has begun to replace the scoreboard at Bothell's Pop Keeney Stadium, the home football field for Bothell, Inglemoor and Woodinville high schools.

The goal is to purchase a state-of-the-art, 18-by-25-foot scoreboard that includes a 7-by-13 foot "live" LED screen. The screen would be used to recognize student achievement in academic and extracurricular activities, show student-created videos and have replay capability.

The $140,000 scoreboard also would be used for varsity boys and girls soccer games. The current scoreboard is 23 years old, the oldest in the KingCo Conference.

The scoreboard-replacement drive is being headed by alumni of Northshore schools. Plans call for no school money to be used.

George Selg, a 1963 graduate of Bothell High School, is captain of the fund drive.

"We'll have a captive audience a lot of nights because the Bothell, Woodinville and Inglemoor football programs are so successful that fans show up an hour before the game to get desirable seats," Selg said.

Bothell's Cougar Football Club is handling donations. They can be made to: Cougar Football Club Scoreboard Fund, PO Box 42, Bothell, WA 98041. More information is available from Selg at 425-481-1475 or at gselg@SELG.US.

Note

• The award given to the Metro League's athletic director of the year will be called the "Ed Putnam Award." Putnam was athletic director at Roosevelt for six years in the 1990s and was at Lakeside from 1999 until his death in August at age 62 from cancer.
