Matt Malos, Interlake football
Malos, a sophomore quarterback, completed 17 of 31 passes for 433 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns as the Saints held off Yelm, 53-48. The decisive TD was a 76-yarder to Dylan Amell.
Rachel Kim, Beamer girls swimming
Kim, a sophomore, posted a pair of state-qualifying times and was also part of two winning relays that met the state standard as the Titans swept a four-way meet against Jefferson, Federal Way and Decatur. She won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.88 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.65.
Archbishop Murphy football team
The Wildcats, coached by Dave Ward, picked a fitting tribute to their former head coach, the late Terry Ennis, by upsetting Eastside Catholic, 26-23. Coach Ennis died from prostate cancer exactly one year earlier. Eastside Catholic came into the game ranked No. 8 in Class 3A at the time. Archbishop Murphy is rated No. 2 in Class 2A.
