Franklin guard Peyton Siva's passes earned him a state-tournament record for assists and a national reputation as one of the top high-school point guards in his recruiting class.
On Friday, Siva decided that Louisville was one opportunity he wouldn't pass on, though, calling coach Rick Pitino to say he would accept a basketball scholarship from the Cardinals.
"I've been praying on it," Siva said. "Talking with family and friends, and I decided Louisville was the best fit for me."
Siva, a 6-foot guard, averaged 19.5 points as a junior last season at Franklin and set a Class 4A state-tournament record with 32 assists in four games. He will go to Louisville after graduating from Franklin in 2009.
His final choices came down to Louisville, Arizona, Kansas or Washington. Siva said he wanted to leave town to go to college, which meant the Huskies were out. The final decision was between Louisville and Kansas.
As a high-school junior, he can't sign a letter of intent until the early signing period next November. Siva visited Louisville in February and attended the Cardinals' 59-51 victory over Georgetown.
"The arena was packed," he said. "It was a great environment, and so was the campus."
Siva is the second player from Seattle in the past five years to agree to play for Louisville. Terrence Williams of Rainier Beach will be a senior at Louisville next season.
"He said it's like a second home out there," Siva said of Williams. "That's why he's coming back for his senior year."
