Seattle Prep sent Mark Frisby out a winner in his final match as the school's coach, beating Lakeside 8-3 to complete a 16-0 Metro League coed tennis season.
Frisby, in his 15th year at the school, is leaving to coach men's and women's tennis at Seattle University.
"It was great to win it, especially this being my last one," said Frisby, whose latest Metro League title caps a 289-4 career record as coach at Prep. "It was just great for these kids to win this year. I think they wanted it more this year than ever."
The next test for Seattle Prep is the Metro League tournament Saturday at Lower Woodland Park. Davis Mangham, two-time defending state boys singles champion, and Charles Quay, state runner-up in doubles the past two years, lead the Panthers.
Eastside Catholic takes title
Matt Boyd and Cal Towey hit two-run homers as Eastside Catholic wrapped up the Metro League Mountain Division baseball title with its second win over Bishop Blanchet in three days, 11-1 in six innings.
The Crusaders (19-1 overall, 16-0), ranked second in the state, also beat the top-ranked Braves on Monday, 5-0. Bishop Blanchet (17-2, 14-2) has lost only to Eastside Catholic this season.
"Our kids really came to play today," said Eastside Catholic assistant Rocco Terry. "Today we just dominated. Our bats showed up. Our pitching showed up. We've got a real solid squad."
Crusaders pitcher T.J. Parthemer (8-0) took a shutout into the sixth inning and allowed only two hits while striking out nine before needing last-out relief.
The Crusaders have won 18 in a row since a 6-4 loss to fifth-ranked Skyline on March 12.
