WesCo officials have approved a proposal to expand from two to three divisions for football only.

Starting in the fall, the WesCo North and South each will have seven Class 4A members. The conference's five remaining schools, all Class 3A, will be in a separate division.

The reason for the shake-up was the "imbalance of 3A schools in the North and South," said Greg Erickson, Marysville School District athletic director. Arlington will move up to 4A next fall, which would have left Everett as the only 3A school in the North. The South would have had four 3A schools.

The new divisions for football:

WesCo 4A North — Oak Harbor, Stanwood, Arlington, Marysville-Pilchuck, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Monroe

WesCo 4A South — Cascade, Mariner, Kamiak, Jackson, Edmonds-Woodway, Mountlake Terrace, Shorewood

WesCo 3A — Everett, Glacier Peak, Meadowdale, Lynnwood, Shorecrest

Notes

• Puyallup's Adam Cimber, who no-hit Spanaway Lake in his last start, took a no-hitter into the seventh against Graham-Kapowsin on Wednesday before finishing with a 1-0, one-hit baseball victory. He struck out 13, including 10 in a row.

Hillary Barker of Cedarcrest fanned 18 in a 10-inning, 3-0 fastpitch shutout of Archbishop Murphy. She allowed three hits. Losing pitcher Brittany Allen struck out 16.

• Ballard will accept applications for girls basketball coach through April 25, according to athletic director Doug Bruketta. Karen Blair recently stepped down after coaching the Beavers to the state tournament this year.
