Edmonds-Woodway boys basketball coach Gail Pintler resigned earlier this week after two successful years leading the Warriors.
Hired on an interim basis two seasons ago, he planned to coach just two seasons, though contemplated coming back for a third.
"I considered going beyond," he said, "but decided to step down. Hopefully they'll get a young, energetic coach. It's time for me to get on the golf course."
The 64-year-old Pintler led Edmonds-Woodway to back-to-back Class 4A state-tournament appearances and placed seventh this season, the highest finish since the school formed in 1990.
A new coach has yet to be named, though Pintler said he would be happy to help on a voluntary basis if asked.
Pintler, who teaches math, plans to teach one more year before retiring.
The Warriors went 40-13 during Pintler's stint, won the WesCo South regular-season title this season and won the Northwest district title in 2007.
Citing the team's overall record, fan support and postseason involvement, Pintler said, "Those are probably the best two years in the program."
Note
• Senior right-hander Stephanie Fox pitched a two-hitter and went 3 for 3 at the plate to lead Eastlake to a 2-1 win over previously undefeated Lake Washington in a KingCo 4A fastpitch game.
