Jordan Birch, Monroe fastpitch

Birch, a senior right-hander, threw her third career perfect game to begin the season in a 7-0 win over Edmonds-Woodway. The Illinois State recruit struck out 17 of the 21 batters she faced, including 13 in a row, and didn't allow a ball to be hit out of the infield.

Chad Kearns, Roosevelt boys soccer

Kearns, a senior forward, scored a hat trick with three goals in a 5-0 win against Inglemoor. He also had the Rough Riders' lone goal in a 1-0 season-opening victory over Bothell.

O'Dea boys soccer team

The Irish, coached by Pat Raney, won three nonleague games in five days. O'Dea shutout West Seattle 2-0, topped Ingraham 4-1 and blanked Sultan 1-0, respectively.

Stars of the week are selected by The Seattle Times staff and published Tuesdays, but can be chosen only once each sports season. Nominations may be e-mailed by Sunday night to sports@seattletimes.com with name, school and accomplishments.
