TACOMA — Ephrata and River Ridge are the Class 2A boys and girls state basketball champions, but only barely.
Kolby Arendse's tip-in attempt hung on the rim and fell off at the buzzer, giving Ephrata a 58-56 win over Burlington-Edison Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome in the boys final.
Patrick Simon scored 19 points and his brother, Daniel, had 17 for sixth-ranked Ephrata (25-2). Jake Anderson of top-ranked Burlington-Edison (24-3) had 25 points and 13 rebounds.
River Ridge of Lacey held off Ellensburg 43-42 for the girls title. Sophie Russell had 15 points and Courtney Blume's steal with 5.2 seconds left secured the second straight state title for the fourth-ranked Hawks (24-3).
Kayla Standish led the No. 7 Bulldogs (23-5) with 15 points.

Port Townsend 40 (3rd-6th)
Jeray Key scored 19 points as the Monarchs, last year's state runners-up, finished third.
Lynden 41, Cheney 36 (4th-7th)
Adam DeLange hit three free throws in the final minute to help the Lions, the 2007 champs, place fourth.
Sehome 48, Chehalis 47 (5th-8th)

Parker Omey scored 19 and Dane Thorpe 18 for Sehome, which nearly let a nine-point lead slip away.
Other girls games
Prosser 79, Elma 51 (3rd-6th)
Freshman Tamara Jones' 22 points led the Mustangs past the Eagles. Megan Goldsmith scored 21 for Elma.
Pullman 39, Othello 35 (4th-7th)
Jessica Thomas scored five points in the final two minutes for Pullman. Othello's Allison Walker scored 20.
Anacortes 61, Black Hills 50 (5th-8th)
Alyssa Averill sparked a 16-5 Anacortes run over the final 5:45 and finished with 21 points.
