Two senior starters, including the leading scorer, have been kicked off the Bellevue Christian boys basketball team that is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 1A.

Coach Mike Downs confirmed Friday that Jeremy Bohnett, who averaged 18.8 points, and Kyle Taylor, who averaged 6.2, "are no longer with us" because they violated a team rule.

Downs declined to be specific about the violation.

"We're going to war with the guys we have," said Downs, whose team beat Seattle Academy 48-44 Thursday to secure a berth in next week's state tournament in Yakima.

"That was a big win," Downs said.

Bellevue Christian (20-2) plays Cedar Park Christian (14-7) tonight for the Emerald City League tournament championship. The Vikings won the league's regular-season title. In December, Bellevue Christian raised eyebrows across the state by beating 4A opponents South Kitsap and Jackson.

Downs said he has reminded his team about the "Iron Lyncs" of Lynden Christian who in 1976 won the Class A tournament with six players after six others were caught smoking marijuana after two games at state.

Bellevue Christian placed fourth at state last year after winning it in 2005 and 2006.

Note

• The Washington State Bowling Proprietors' Association state high-school boys bowling championships are today and Sunday at Bowlero Lanes in Tacoma and Paradise Village Lanes in Spanaway. Competition begins at 1 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Sunday. Cascade and Oak Harbor are the Seattle-area schools that qualified for Division I.
