AUBURN — Kennedy gave Auburn Riverside a battle for one quarter Saturday night before the top-ranked Ravens broke away for a 63-48 girls basketball victory in the Seamount/SPSL 3A subdistrict playoffs.
Kennedy led 8-5 going into the second quarter.
It was the first defeat for third-ranked Kennedy (19-1) but was not completely unexpected. Auburn Riverside (18-3), the defending state champion, has not lost to an in-state team this season, nor won by fewer than 13 points.
Katie Grad scored 19 points for the Ravens, who will play a winner-to-state game against sixth-ranked Capital of Olympia Thursday night in the West Central 3A District tournament. Kennedy also plays a winner-to-state game Thursday, against Olympic of Silverdale. Both games are at Puyallup High School.
Yasmine Fuller led Kennedy with 20 points.
