Tyler Nigg
Kamiak High wrestling
Nigg, a senior and co-captain, pinned Drew Parker of Vancouver's Evergreen High in 1 minute, 2 seconds to win the 215-pound weight-class title at the South Kitsap Invitational in Port Orchard on Saturday. He also pinned his first two opponents in the first period. Two days earlier, Nigg (21-4) pinned his opponent in 1:49 as the Knights beat Meadowdale High 58-15.
Danika Shaffer
Jackson High girls wrestling
Shaffer, a senior, captured the girls 103-pound title at the Jaguar Invitational in Puyallup on Saturday. She pinned Andrea Emerick of Fife High in 26 seconds in the semifinal and Sedro-Woolley High's Justine Allen in 45 seconds in the championship. The night before, Shaffer (13-2) went 3-0 with three pins in duals.
Lakewood High girls basketball team
The Cougars, coached by Chris Walster, rallied from a five-point deficit with under three minutes remaining by going on a 9-0 run to beat South Whidbey High 48-44 on Friday. Aly Stewart (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Jennifer Lind (10, 10) had double-doubles for Lakewood. Two days earlier, the Cougars beat Coupeville High 54-38, led by Karli Hesselman's 11 points and 13 rebounds.
