Snohomish High girls basketball
Benson, a 6-foot-1 junior forward, opened the season with three straight double-doubles. She had 17 points and 12 rebounds in a 59-55 loss to Meadowdale on Dec. 5, then followed with 14 points and 13 rebounds in a 40-31 win over Marysville-Pilchuck on Friday. At Saturday's Les Schwab Hoop Challenge at Bellevue Community College, Benson totaled 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 54-49 victory against Jackson.
Zachary Israel
Grace Academy boys basketball
Israel, a 5-10 sophomore guard, totaled 81 points and sank 17 three-pointers in three games as the unbeaten Eagles of Marysville improved to 4-0. He had 18 points in a 51-40 victory over Mount Vernon Christian, then scored a career-high 38 points in a 55-32 win against Puget Sound Adventist on Dec. 4. Israel finished with 25 points in a 64-54 win over Concrete on Thursday. For the season, he has 111 points, 12 steals, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and is shooting 25-for-52 from three-point range.
Kamiak wrestling team
The Knights, coached by Dan Hanika, rallied from a 30-3 deficit by winning the final eight weight classes (five pins, two decisions and one major decision) to beat Everett 43-30 on Dec. 4. Kamiak followed with a 72-0 sweep of Shorecrest on Thursday. At the Lake Washington Invitational on Saturday, Kamiak placed third out of 16 teams as Collin Munoz (171 pounds) captured the silver medal and seven Knights won bronze medals.
