Antoinne Wafer , Edmonds-Woodway football
Wafer, a 5-foot-7, 170-pound senior, made the catch of a lifetime to help propel the Warriors past Eastlake 24-21 and into the Class 4A state semifinals. On a fourth-down play deep in E-W territory, Wafer went up between two taller defenders and caught a 49-yard pass that led to the winning touchdown. He also intercepted a pass.
Terrika Weaver ,
Seattle Christian girls soccer
Weaver, a freshman, scored two goals in the first three minutes and went on to net her first hat trick to lead the Warriors to a 3-1 victory over King's and a third-place finish in the Class 1A/2B/1B state playoffs. Seattle Christian, last year's state champion, bounced back from a 2-1 semifinal loss to LaSalle.
Beamer girls soccer team
The Titans, coached by Carrie Hentschell, capped an outstanding season by placing second in the state in Class 4A. After edging defending champion Woodinville 1-0 in the semifinals, Beamer took nationally ranked and unbeaten Eastlake to a shootout before losing 2-1. Beamer, a fifth-year Federal Way school, finished 20-2.
Stars of the week are selected by The Seattle Times staff and published Tuesdays, but can be chosen only once each sports season. Nominations may be e-mailed by Sunday night to sports@seattletimes.com with name, school and accomplishments.
