4A Girls Soccer | Wolves finish 19-0 season with shootout victory over Beamer

LAKEWOOD — Perfection.

Emma Levy scored the equalizer in the 51st minute and Eastlake went on to force overtime and beat Beamer 2-1 by outscoring the Titans 3-1 in a shootout Saturday night for the Class 4A girls soccer state championship.

The victory at Harry Lang Stadium completed a 19-0 season by the Wolves from Sammamish.

"That's pure joy to me, right there," Eastlake coach Chuck Krieble said while watching his girls celebrate.

The Wolves had not trailed all season until Friday's semifinal, when they rallied to beat Richland in a shootout. Much like Friday, Eastlake came back from a one-goal deficit and beat Beamer (20-2) of Federal Way with penalty kicks.

"We just kept our heads up," Levy said. "There's just so much positive energy on this team."

In both games, Lindsay Elston had the winning shot in the shootout. The sophomore midfielder also scored the equalizer in Friday's semifinal.

Although Beamer's Holland Crook put her team ahead 1-0 with 17.9 seconds left in the first half, the Wolves fought back and put the finishing touches on a perfect season.

"We prepared for the stress," said Krieble.

The state title is the second for Eastlake, which beat Cascade of Everett in the 2002 final. The Wolves placed third last season. But this championship is special because it capped a flawless season.

"From Day 1, back in August, we said our main goal was to be undefeated," Levy said. "And that would bring us the state championship."

Beamer's storybook season came to a disappointing end when Elston's shot hit the back of the net. The Titans, in their first state appearance, were trying to bring home the school's first state championship in any sport.

Beamer students wore shirts that said, "We Believe" and sang Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " at halftime and before the shootout.

But the fifth-year school did not have a fairy-tale ending to a terrific season, the best in school history.

"I won't remember the losses," said senior midfielder Jordan Crook.

The Titans, leading 1-0, had momentum going into the second half. But Levy's header for Eastlake tied it in the 51st minute. Elston's perfectly placed corner kick set up the tying score.

In the shootout, after Beamer missed its first two penalty kicks, Eastlake and Elston were in the driver's seat.

Woodinville 1, Richland 0

Falcons sophomore Brianna Sweeney scored the only goal, heading in a Heather Thomas corner kick in the 71st minute. Leslie Greer recorded the shutout for Woodinville (17-5), the defending state champion which has placed in its last three state appearances since 2001. Richland (18-5) finished fourth in its 20th state appearance in the last 21 years.
