KENNEWICK — Archbishop Murphy of Mill Creek beat West Valley (Spokane) 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 for fifth place Friday in the Class 2A state volleyball tournament at the Toyota Center.
The unranked Wildcats (16-3) won three straight matches after a first-round loss to Pullman on Thursday.
Selah, ranked second in the final state coaches poll, won its second straight title, beating sixth-ranked Tumwater 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 in the final. Selah's toughest match came in the semifinals, where the Vikings outlasted Ellensburg 25-19, 25-27, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12.
Class 1A
At the Yakima SunDome, third-ranked King's of Shoreline and No. 10 Cedar Park Christian of Bothell reached today's quarterfinals with first-round wins. King's swept Goldendale 25-23, 25-10, 25-13. Cedar Park Christian beat River View of Finley 20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15.
Today at 10:30 a.m., Cedar Park Christian faces top-ranked Colfax, which has won the past three state titles and five of the past seven. King's plays Chelan. The title match is set for 8 p.m.
Class 2B
At the Yakima SunDome, top-ranked La Conner, the defending state champion, joined Wilbur-Creston, Manson and Lind-Ritzville in the semifinals. The title match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.
Class 1B
At the Yakima SunDome, top-ranked Tekoa-Oakesdale beat its Whitman County League rival, Garfield-Palouse, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 in the championship match.
