Athlete: Clete Casper, Issaquah, Class of 1978

Sports: Football, basketball, track

High-school rewind: Three-sport star was all-conference quarterback and punter. Captained football and basketball teams as senior. Played in all-state football game.

After high school: Casper, a Huskies fan while growing up, was inspired to play for in-state rival WSU after seeing Cougars quarterback Jack Thompson play.

He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1983 NFL draft in the 12th round, the 311th overall pick. "I was drafted in the year of the quarterback," Casper said. "Unfortunately, I was the last one taken."

After athletics: After a "fleeting" pro career, Casper returned to Washington and entered the real-estate business. He ran CarrAmerica, a commercial real-estate company, until it was sold and now heads the Seattle branch of Tishman Speyer Properties.

Personal: Casper, 48, lives on Mercer Island with his wife of 17 years, Bronwen. They have two children: Andrew, 15, and Allison, 10.

Fast forward: Putting to use a degree in broadcast journalism, Casper did color commentary for WSU broadcasts during what he calls a "great era of Cougar football" in the late 1980s and the 1990s.

Casper remains very involved with the Cougars. He travels frequently to watch the team and "escape Husky country."

Casper described the real estate industry as close-knit, like the teams of his past. When he looks back at his football career, the relationships stand out most.

"You know the best thing about any high-school experience is the lifelong friends you make," he said. "It's always fun to run into guys you played against and laugh about things that went on back in the day."
