There wasn't going to be an upset Saturday night at Memorial Stadium if Mike Bush could do anything about it.
The junior running back methodically strung together 93 second-half yards and the decisive touchdown for 10th-ranked Eastside Catholic, and the Crusaders clinched the Metro League's No. 3 seed into the preliminary playoffs with a 16-13, comeback win over Rainier Beach.
"It feels good, it feels good," Bush said. "We came out down at the half, and put everything together."
Rainier Beach (3-5) was brewing an upset with a 13-8 halftime lead, but the Crusaders' offensive line came together in the fourth as Bush had six carries, including the winning 2-yard TD.
The Crusaders (8-1) will travel to Franklin Pierce next weekend.
"Our whole goal was to get ourselves back to state," Eastside Catholic coach Bill Marsh said. "We'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss anytime."
West Seattle prevails
West Seattle picked up Metro's No. 4 spot in the preliminary playoffs with a 26-7 victory over Bishop Blanchet (5-4) at Memorial Stadium.
Aaron Grymes rushed for 107 yards on 10 carries and caught two TD passes from Aleks Sils.
"We were pumped up early to beat them because they beat us earlier in the year," Grymes said. "We did the same thing in the second half that we did in the first, and that's what kept us motivated to win the game."
The Wildcats (5-4) visit Evergreen of White Center next weekend.
