Terry Ennis, football coach at Archbishop Murphy High School, died early today at University Medical Center of prostate cancer.
Mr. Ennis, 63, had been battling the cancer since late 2002.
He was the second-winningest coach in state history with a record of 287-87. He won 1A state championships at Archbishop Murphy in 2002 and 2003 and the 4A (then-AAA) title in 1991 at Cascade.
Mr. Ennis was in his 36th year of coaching and had been named The Seattle Times' high-school coach of the 20th century. He had been the head coach at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Renton, Stanwood, Cascade and Murphy, where he started the football program in 2000.
Archbishop Murphy named its football stadium after Mr. Ennis earlier this year in February. He coached his final game Saturday when Murphy beat Black Hills of Tumwater, 49-7.
Mr. Ennis was the son of the late legendary Everett coach Jim Ennis.
