Metro League Boys Roundup | Seattle Prep knocks off Bainbridge

Seattle Prep's Nate Girma made 1 of 2 free-throw attempts after getting fouled with 1.7 seconds left as he secured a rebound on Bainbridge's potential go-ahead shot, and the host Panthers beat the second-ranked Spartans 68-67 on Friday night in a Metro League Mountain Division game.

Seattle Prep (9-8, 7-6) led by 12 going into the fourth quarter, but Bainbridge (15-2, 12-1) fought back and tied it at 67 on two Nick Fling free throws with 20 seconds left.

The Panthers turned the ball over on the next possession, but Bainbridge missed and Girma grabbed the rebound.

"A win like this confirms the hard work that our players have been doing," Prep coach Michael Kelly said. "It shows that you must continue to focus on what you do, because we are starting to play a lot better."

Jack Hanley led Prep with 13 points and Jordan Hamilton had 12.

Coby Gibler scored 25 and Steven Gray had 22 for the Spartans, who visit top-ranked O'Dea today at 3 p.m.
