Boys Basketball | No. 2 Bainbridge escapes in OT

Bainbridge, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A, survived a huge scare from Cleveland before escaping with a 78-67 overtime victory Monday night in a Metro League boys basketball game.

The visiting Spartans (14-1 overall, 11-0 Metro Mountain Division) led by three before Cleveland's Hilton Horne drove for a layup, was fouled and made the tying free throw with five seconds left in regulation.

In overtime, Bainbridge scored the first five points.

Austin Wood got 10 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and overtime for Bainbridge. Steven Gray added 16 and Coby Gibler 15.

Horne scored 26, including 12 points in the fourth quarter, and was 12 of 12 at the free-throw line for the Eagles (11-5, 8-4 Metro Sound). Michael Crudup added 20 points for Cleveland.
