Eastside stars of the week

Nikole Novikova, Bellevue girls tennis

Novikova, a freshman, defeated teammate Julie Phillips 6-1, 6-4 to win the Sea-King 3A District championship. She beat Sammamish's Van Duong 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. Novikova heads to state with a 18-0 record in No. 1 singles and has not lost a set all season.

Daniel Hagensen, Newport baseball

Hagensen, a senior left-hander, waited through a three-hour rain delay before shutting down North Central of Spokane 4-1 in the Class 3A state tournament. He threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Liberty faspitch softball team

The Patriots, coached by Brian Hartman, advanced to state for the 10th consecutive year. They beat Issaquah 6-4 for the Sea-King 3A District tournament title after finishing fourth in the KingCo 3A Conference.
