Prep Roundup: West Seattle escapes, 1-0

Travis Gilmore's run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh inning broke up Lakeside pitcher Forrest Snow's no-hitter as West Seattle escaped with a 1-0 win Monday in a Metro League baseball tournament opener.

The dramatic finish put the Wildcats (20-1), ranked sixth in the state in Class 3A, in the Metro semifinals Wednesday against Nathan Hale, which surprised Bishop Blanchet 2-1 in eight innings.

Seattle Prep and defending state champion O'Dea also advanced with victories Monday.

In Wednesday's winner-to-state semifinals, Seattle Prep (17-4) plays O'Dea (13-8) at 4 p.m. and West Seattle meets Hale (10-13) at 7. In loser-out games, Ingraham (10-12) plays Chief Sealth at 10 a.m. and Lakeside (13-8) faces Bishop Blanchet (15-6) at 1 p.m.

Ninth-ranked Seattle Prep, the Mountain Division champion, beat Ingraham 8-0 as C.J. Cullen got seventh-inning relief help from Dan Lockett in a combined four-hitter.
