Prep stars of the week

Kellen Kiilsgaard, Auburn football

Kiilsgaard, a junior quarterback and defensive back, was a major factor as the Trojans upset eighth-ranked Tahoma, 24-21. He carried 21 times for 142 yards and a touchdown and completed 6 of 12 passes for 102 yards. After Tahoma had tied the score with 39 seconds remaining, Kiilsgaard drove his team from the Auburn 20-yard line to the Tahoma 3, setting up Mo Olsen's winning 19-yard field goal as time ran out. He also intercepted two passes and averaged 42 yards on four punts.

Jamie Nikami, Garfield volleyball

The senior setter set a school record with 43 assists as the Bulldogs knocked off Redmond, the defending KingCo 4A champion, 25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 22-25, 17-15. Nikami, a team captain, set up three of the final four points as Garfield evened its conference record at 1-1.

Kent-Meridian boys tennis team

The Royals, coached by Randy Werner, ended a 58-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Auburn Mountainview. They had not won since the final match of the 2000 season.

Stars of the week are selected by The Seattle Times staff and published Tuesdays, but can be chosen only once each sports season. Nominations may be e-mailed by Sunday night to sports@seattletimes.com with name, school and accomplishments.
