Three StarTimes players and the StarTimes coach will be among some of the area's top fastpitch softball players expected to play in the Senior All-Star Challenge on Thursday at Fort Dent Park in Tukwila.
PURPOSE: To reward top senior fastpitch players selected to play in the series. The games are intended to be fun but competitive. Although college coaches will be in attendance, this is not intended to be an exposure tournament. Last year's event attracted more than 300 spectators.
WHEN: Thursday.
TIMES: First games at 5 p.m., with second games to follow.
WHERE: Fort Dent Park in Tukwila.
WHO: Four teams made up of Class 3A/4A leagues from the Northwest League in the north to the Pac 9 in the south. Schools represented: 121.
Team 1: Wesco North/South and Northwest League.
Team 2: Kingco 4A/3A and Metro 3A.
Team 3: South Puget Sound North/South and Seamount King.
Team 4: Narrows Bay, Bridge, Seamount Pierce and Pac 9.
PLAYERS: Each team has 15 to 19 top senior players.
FORMAT: Each team plays two games, with blind draw for first games. Winners then play winners and losers play losers. First games at 5 p.m. Losers' game starts immediately after first games. Winners' game starts 30 minutes after the start of the losers' game.
ADMISSION: $5 for adults and high-school students without an ASB card; $4 for high-school students with ASB card and grades kindergarten through middle school.
Shortstop Melissa Dubay, from Auburn Riverside, and Decatur pitcher Rachel Painter are slated to play for Team 3, comprised of SPSL and Seamount King players.
Issaquah outfielder Kellyn Grote is on the roster for Team 2 (KingCo-Metro), and Lake Stevens coach Sue Van Wyhe will be on the coaching staff for Team 1 (WesCo-Northwest).
The fourth team is made up of players from Seamount Pierce, Narrows and Pac 9 leagues.
Teams will be paired in a blind draw for the opening games at 5 p.m., with consolation and championship games to follow.
Admission is $5 for adults and high-school students without ASB cards, and $4 for high-school students with ASB cards and kindergarten through middle school.
Note
• The Seamount League baseball feeder games are tomorrow at Husky Ballpark. Top seniors from the King and Pierce divisions will play in a 5 p.m. doubleheader. Top players can be nominated for the all-state series, which is later this month.
