Eastside stars of the week High School Sports Cody Brazen, Bellevue girls basketball Brazen, a 6-foot sophomore forward, put together consecutive double-doubles in a pair of wins against KingCo 3A rivals. She scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds versus Sammamish. Against Interlake, Brazen had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Jeff Downs, Bellevue Christian boys basketball Downs, a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward, posted a double-double (16 points, 14 rebounds) to lead the Vikings to a win over Seattle Academy. He followed that up by scoring a game-high 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds in a victory against Cedar Park Christian to extend Bellevue Christian's winning streak to seven. The Islanders, coached by Jeff Lowell, edged Seattle Prep 93-90 in a nonleague dual meet. Tad Homchick qualified for state in the 100-yard butterfly (:55.85) and Bill Gorin qualified in the 100 free (:50.04). Mercer Island also scored state-qualifying times in all three relays. Stars of the week are selected by The Seattle Times staff and published Tuesdays, but can be chosen only once each sports season.
