High School Sports
Clover Park Warriors
Location: Lakewood Coach: Jon Randall (2nd year, 6-5 record) 2003: 4-2 (3rd Seamount Pierce Division), 6-5 overall (lost to Kennedy 38-14 in West Central 3A District playoffs) Returning starters (7 offense, 7 defense): QB Tavita Pritchard, 6-4, 180, Sr.; RB Omar Petty, 5-10, 185, Sr.; WR Brian Williams, 5-10, 180, Sr.; WR Eric Clark, 5-9, 165, Sr.; WR Daniel Barkley, 6-2, 200, Jr.; OL Steve Lucas, 6-3, 265, Sr.; OL Josh Tinitali, 6-4, 235, Sr.; CB Chris Hamilton, 5-10, 165, Sr.; S Andre Clark, 6-0, 170, Jr.; OLB Chris Jarmon, 5-11, 195, Jr.; OLB John Roberts, 5-11, 190, Jr.; S Anthony Peterson, 5-11, 180, Sr.; ILB Kevin Washington, 5-11, 195, Sr.; LB Oliver Tinitali, 5-9, 200, Sr. Other key returners: K Chris Dearth, 5-11, 170, Sr.; OL Yikwon Dillard, 5-8, 190, Sr.; OLB/TE Jason Juitt, 6-1, 190, Sr.; OL/DL Shawn Neil, 6-0, 235, Sr.; WR Chris Bacon, 6-2, 170, Sr.; WR/DB, Willie Jason, 5-11, 160, Jr. Impact newcomers: RB/DB Dominic Lowery, 5-11, 200, So.; RB/LB Darriell Beaumont, 6-1, 205, So.; OL/DL Frank James, 6-3, 250, Jr. Outlook: Warriors are well stocked at skill positions, but have some questions on both sides of line. With Pritchard under center, Randall expects his offense to score early and often. If line holds up, Warriors could look like the team that upset Lakes late last season and be a contender. If not, Pritchard had better be good throwing on the run.
Fife Trojans
Location: Fife Coach: Kent Nevin (2nd year, 3-7) 2003: 1-5 (7th), 3-7 Returning starters (6 offense, 7 defense): C/DL Mike Monico, 5-9, 255, Sr.; OT/DT Jamal Williams, 6-3, 260, Sr.; OG/DT Jason Bates, 5-11, 220; Sr.; RB/FS Paul Brewer, 6-0, 215, Sr.; WR Alex Murray, 6-4, 210, Sr.; WR Jeremy Orr, 6-1, 180, Sr.; OLB Pete Carlson, 5-9, 180, Sr.; OLB Brett Stevens, 6-3, 260, Sr.; ILB Sean Miller, 5-10, 180, Jr. Other key returners: WR/CB Ryan Burchett 5-10, 185, Sr.; OG/DL Kyle O'Malley, 5-8, 160; Sr.; OT/DT Nick Byrum, 6-1, 265, Jr.; RB David Johnson, 5-9, 180 Sr. Impact newcomers: QB J.T. Stutesman, 5-10, 170, Jr.; RB/LB Sonny Aumeoualogo, 5-9, 180, So.; TE Cody Pollock, 6-2, 220, So.; TE Drew Sullivan, 6-3, 240, Jr. Outlook: Nevin hopes inexperienced quarterback can help his team improve over last season's last-place finish. The line figures to be a strength of senior-led team. Look for RB Paul Brewer to shoulder much of offensive load. Franklin Pierce Cardinals
Location: Tacoma Coach: Howard Lutton (17th year, 88-68) 2003: 2-4 (6th), 5-5 Returning starters (3 offense, 2 defense): CB/HB Matt Wolfor, 5-10, 180, Sr.; OT/DE Alec Kearns, 6-1, 190, Sr.; RB/S Rodney Williams, 6-0, 195, Sr.; OT Chris Brownlee, 6-2, 245; Sr. Other key returners: LB Brian Neumiller, 6-0, 205, Jr.; LB Moses Leasiolagi, 6-1, 209, Jr.; DE/TE Schullyer Nagorski 6-1, 190, Jr. Outlook: A strong, hard-hitting defense will be expected to take pressure off relatively inexperienced offense. Rodney Williams was second-team all-league selection last year at RB and should account for a healthy chunk of team's offense. Lakes Lancers
Location: Lakewood Coach: Dave Miller (5th year, 43-5) 2003: 5-1 (tied for 1st) 10-2 overall (lost to Bellevue 49-7 in first round of state playoffs) Returning starters (7 offense, 5 defense): QB Erich Williams, 6-2, 195, Sr.; FB/LB Damien Awong, 6-1, 210, Sr.; C Clint Petree, 6-1, 260, Sr.; OG Kolio Kuaea, 6-3, 270, Jr.; OG Mike Hawkins, 6-1, 260, Sr.; OT Ian Billingsley, 6-1, 240, Sr., OT Geoff Moylan, 6-2, 215, Sr.; DE Tony Watson, 6-3, 245, Sr.; DT Herna Tamaalii, 5-10, 290, Sr.; LB Pasikale Manaea, 5-11, 180, Jr.; K Ryan Shuman, 5-9, 160, Sr. Other key returners: Long snapper Steve Thompson, 6-1, 215, Sr.; WR Tom Snavely, 6-2, 180, Sr.; S/P Clay Church, 6-0, 190, Jr.; TB/LB Nathan Murphy, 5-11, 170, Jr.; DB/WR Wylie Ellis, 6-2, 205, Jr. Impact newcomers: TB/S Craig Garner, 5-8, 165, Jr.; WR/DB, Rodrick Knight, 6-1, 170, Jr.; WR/DB Napoleon Williams, 6-1, 180, Sr.; TE/DE Mike Awong, 6-4, 230, Jr. Outlook: Lancers' 45-game regular-season win streak tumbled against Clover Park last year in Miller's first league loss. Even so, Lakes is still favorite to win division, but could face challenges from White River and Clover Park. Erich Williams returns as one of league's top QBs, but will throw to inexperienced group of receivers. On plus side, he will be protected by a line averaging 249 pounds. Peninsula Seahawks
Location: Gig Harbor Coach: Ross Filkins (10th year, 44-39) 2003: 2-4 (tied for 4th), 4-5 overall Returning starters (5 offense, 3 defense): OT Tom Hoghaug, 6-2, 245, Sr.; OG Kyle Gragg, 5-10, 250, Sr.; OT Micah Hannam, 6-5, 270, Jr.; OG Nick Bassett, 6-3, 265, Jr.; WR Scott Cashman, 6-2, 170, So. Other key returner: QB Jesse Cedarland, 6-0, 185, Sr. Impact newcomer: RB Calvin Williams, 5-9, 160, Jr. Outlook: One of league's top receivers last year, Cedarland will throw passes this season instead of catching them. Young but experienced offense must put up points as Seahawks return only three starters on defense. Four starters are back on offensive line. Washington Patriots
Location: Tacoma Coach: Chris Nofo (1st year) 2003: 2-4 (tied for 4th), 6-4 Returning starters (7 offense, 7 defense): RB/LB Mike Fuaau, 6-0, 210, Sr.; RB/LB Tupo Fuaau, 5-11, 185, Jr.; WR/CB Patrick Evans, 5-9, 165, Sr.; QB Paul Abel, 6-2, 185, Sr.; WR/DB Lamonte Cavalier, 6-2, 190, Sr.; RB/DB Kurt Groh, 5-10, 180, Jr.; WR/DB Eric Miller, 6-0, 180, Jr.; K Kellen Lowder, 5-11, 170, Jr. Other key returners: QB/DB Jon Jennings, 5-11, 160, So; OL/DL Ike Woo, 5-10, 265, So.; TE/LB Zach Colon, 5-10, 205, So. Outlook: This is first head-coaching job for Nofo, who played at Mount Tahoma, and later in CFL with B.C. Lions. He spent past three years as assistant at Foss. RB/LB Mike Fuaau is considered one of league's top players and was first-team LB last year. Patriots return a big group of starters, but depth is a concern. White River Hornets
Location: Buckley Coach: Kevin McNulty (2nd year, 9-3) 2003: 5-1 (tied for 1st), 9-3 overall (lost to O'Dea 21-6 in first round of state playoffs) Returning starters (5 offense, 4 defense): QB/S Justin Gran, 5-10, 170, Jr.; WR/DB Sean McNulty, 6-0, 178, Sr.; RB Dan Babuata, 5-10, 180, Sr.; OL/LB Brad Padgett, 5-9, 215, Sr.; OT/DT Sean Dawson, 6-2, 240, Sr. Other key returners: WR/DB Tyler Madden, 5-7, 140, Sr.; WR/DB Jordan Bleasdale, 6-0, 165, Sr.; OT/DT Jeremiah Horton, 5-11, 220, Sr.; OG/LB Leif Hansen, 5-11, 230, Jr.; LB James Murphy, 6-3, 200, Sr.; TE/LB John Rice, 6-7, 235, Sr. Outlook: Gran is making switch from RB to QB, taking over for his brother Jason, who led last year's team to state playoffs. Hornets are contenders and their Oct. 22 showdown with Lakes could decide division title. Last year, White River tied Lakes for first place. John Boyle
