Seattle Golf Show kicks off the season Friday
Seattle Golf Show set for Qwest Field Event Center
Seattle Times staff
The unofficial start of the local golf season is Friday when the three-day Seattle Golf & Travel Show begins at Qwest Field Event Center.
More than 200 exhibitors are scheduled to be at the event, and there will be 20 indoor hitting stations to try out potential purchases.
The event had been called the Seattle Golf Show in previous years, and the name change reflects an expanded focus on golf destinations and travel in general.
The show is open Friday from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets at the door are $12 for adults, $5 for ages 15 to 17 and free for 14 and under.
Adults who register receive one free round of golf at one of four area courses — Eaglemont, Highlander, Port Ludlow and The Classic Golf Club — and also receive a complimentary, one-year subscription to Golf Digest magazine.
For more information about the show, parking and ticket discounts, see seattlegolfshow.com.
Notes
• Seattle Parks and Recreation has announced it has decided not to proceed with the construction of a driving range at West Seattle Golf Course.
"It turns out this project, as it can be physically fitted into the course, is not consistent with the course's historic design," said Christopher Williams, acting superintendent for Seattle Parks and Recreation.
• David Kass has been hired as the head professional at Salish Cliffs Golf Club. The Shelton course is scheduled to open in June.
• Johnny Miller will be the featured speaker at the Players Dinner for the U.S. Junior Amateur, which will be played July 18-23 at Gold Mountain in Bremerton. Miller, a golf analyst for NBC Sports and a former U.S. Open winner, also is a former winner of this event.
• The Golf Alliance of Washington has scheduled a Golf Summit, a series of speakers and seminars devoted to the betterment of the business of golf, for April 5 at Fircrest Golf Club. The seminar will be aimed toward volunteers and officials connected to the game. Registration fee is $50.
