The Senior Open's top 10 contenders | Golf

10 players to watch at the Senior Open

The Senior Open appears to be a wide-open affair with no clear-cut favorite. Here are 10 of the top contenders:

Fred Couples

The Seattle native will certainly draw the biggest galleries. He is the honorary chairman, and this is an event he has pointed to for years.

Tom Watson

One of the all-time greats with eight major titles, he nearly added a ninth last summer at age 59 at the British Open.

Bernhard Langer

The steady German is a two-time Masters winner and is coming off a win in last week's Senior British Open.

Corey Pavin

His game is suited for Sahalee, and he was second at the Senior British Open, just a shot behind Langer.

Mark O'Meara

The runner-up at last year's Boeing Classic at the TPC at Snoqualmie, he was tied for fourth in the 1998 PGA Championship at Sahalee.

Loren Roberts

The defending champion at the Boeing Classic sneaked in a practice round last summer at Sahalee, and thinks the course is a good fit for him.

Tom Lehman

Former British Open winner has made a nice transition to the Champions Tour, and was 14th in the British Open a couple of weeks ago.

Fred Funk

The defending Senior Open champion was second in the NEC Invitational at Sahalee in 2002, finishing ahead of Tiger Woods.

Mark Calcavecchia

Was second through 36 holes of the British Open this year. When he's putting well, he can post some low scores.

Tom Kite

Two-time winner of the Boeing Classic, he should be fresh having skipped the trip to the Senior British Open.
