SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Troy Matteson blew a chance to win the Frys.com Open in regulation by bogeying the 17th and 18th holes.
Playing the same holes in reverse order in a three-way playoff, Matteson recovered from his late collapse. He birdied the second extra hole to beat Jamie Lovemark and Rickie Fowler on Sunday at Grayhawk Golf Club for his second PGA Tour victory.
"I just can't believe that it's ended up like this," said the 29-year-old Matteson, who won $900,000. "I know I stumbled going down the stretch, but I'm still beside myself."
Matteson led by three shots entering the final round and closed with a 2-under-par 68 for a 72-hole total of 18-under 262. Lovemark and Fowler had final-round 64s.
After all three players parred the first playoff hole, Matteson hit his approach to inside 3 feet on the 464-yard, par-4 17th hole and rolled in the putt.
Ryan Moore (69) of Puyallup tied for eighth place at 13 under and Seattle native Fred Couples (72) tied for 66th at 4 under.
After shooting a 72 Thursday, Matteson thought he might be headed for the airport before the weekend. But he had back-to-back 61s Friday and Saturday — setting a PGA Tour record for lowest score in consecutive rounds.
"That's as good as I can play," Matteson said. "I really don't have to worry about playing better than that, because that's it."

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Alex Prugh, a former Washington Huskies player from Spokane, and Jeff Gove of Seattle have 2010 PGA Tour cards, earned by finishing among the top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list.
Matt Every won the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship, closing with a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke victory over Michael Sim (69). Every, who had a 21-under 267 total, earned $180,000 and jumped from 49th to 10th on the earnings list.

Prugh finished 16th on the money list, one spot in front of Gove.
Prugh, 25, was assured of a PGA Tour card before the tournament. He is 0 for 1 in PGA Tour events, as he missed the cut in the 2007 U.S. Open.
Gove, 38, is winless in 141 PGA Tour events, with five finishes in the top 10.
Of playing on the Nationwide Tour, Gove said, "This Tour taught me you have to play well consistently to be successful. One good event here and there doesn't cut it."
Other tournament
• Phil Blackmar won his first title on the 50-and-older Champions Tour, closing with a 7-under 64 for a one-shot victory over Jay Haas (69), Tom Kite (68) and Andy Bean (70) in the AT&T Championship in San Antonio. The 6-foot-7 Blackmar, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, had a 10-under 203 total for 54 holes.
Blackmar, 52, earned $255,000.
