Seattle's Bag Borrow or Steal gets a role in "Sex and the City" film

A Seattle-based handbag company that sells "borrowed luxury" has been written into the script of the upcoming "Sex and the City" movie. Which makes sense, if you think about it, because if we learned anything from "Sex and the City," it's that sometimes a girl's gotta fake it. Ha.

In the film, Carrie Bradshaw's assistant, Louise (played by Jennifer Hudson) is a handbag fanatic who regularly swaps designer purses through Bag Borrow or Steal, also known as Netflix for handbags.

" 'Sex and the City' has never been about product placement," said Jodi Watson, a spokeswoman for Bag Borrow or Steal. "They use products that lend authenticity. [Producer] Michael Patrick King thought we were the right kind of company for a fashionista, so we're very proud of it."

The company has partnered with New Line Cinema to give away two trips to the New York red-carpet premiere of "Sex and the City," which hits theaters May 30 (www.bagborroworsteal.com for more info). Among the prizes: a borrowed handbag, natch. ...

ACTOR LESLIE JORDAN whirled through Seattle last week, where he was mobbed at locales from Capitol Hill to West Seattle. "From my years on 'Will & Grace,' you'd think I'm Madonna," Jordan said. "There's a new girl about town ... me!" You may not know Jordan by name, but the diminutive star is easily recognizable from his guest roles on "Will & Grace" and "Boston Legal." The Hollywood veteran recalls working with stars like George Clooney, Billy Bob Thornton and Matt LeBlanc before they were famous: "I've had huge, unrequited crushes on all of them." His next batch of hunky co-stars is due up in June, when he'll return to perform with the Seattle Men's Chorus. ...

MARINERS CLOSER J.J. PUTZ may be out with a rib injury, but we're pretty sure his funny bone remains intact. The notorious prankster will be honored at Saturday's game, also known as J.J. Putz Soul Patch Night. The first 20,000 fans at the ballpark get a free red "soul patch" to wear as the M's take on the Angels. "We always have had a fascination with hair here at the Mariners, beginning with 'The Buhner Buzz' in the '90s, when fans shaved their heads to get into the game free," said Kevin Martinez, Mariners VP of Marketing. "This idea basically came from that same place, wherever that is." ...

A KARAOKE PARTY benefiting Seattle's On The Boards produced some entertainment well worth the $25 admission fee: Mike Pham and Betsey Brock of the Henry Art Gallery, in matching track outfits, sang Olivia Newton John's "Physical," prompting OTB Artistic Director Lane Czaplinski to spontaneously get up and jump rope for the duration of the performance. Which is so much better than a standing ovation. ...

SEATTLE RANKS SEVENTH in the top 10 places to make indie movies, according to a new list published by MovieMaker magazine. A quick and informal survey of people nearby failed to yield the names of any major films to come out of Seattle in recent memory, proving once again that top 10 lists are basically meaningless.
