Hempler Foods Group of Ferndale, Whatcom County, has voluntarily recalled more than 5,000 pounds of summer sausage due to an unlisted allergen.

The company found that the product label fails to list hydrolyzed sodium caseinate (milk protein), a potential known allergen.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has received no reports of illness.

The recall includes16-ounce packages of "Reser's Fine Foods, Premium Summer Sausage, Natural Smoke Flavoring Added" distributed in Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

Each label bears the number "EST. 6410" inside the USDA seal of inspection, and each package bears a "sell by" date of 3/13/07, 3/18/07, 4/25/07, 5/16/07, 6/16/07 or 8/27/07.

Consumers with questions should contact Reser's Fine Foods at 360-312-1413.
