Supermarkets have game day covered

If you are planning a Super Bowl party and don't want to spend game day in the kitchen, local supermarkets are predicting what their most popular carry-home items will be. And if you are counting on making takeout items the centerpiece of your Superbowl party, it is best to place your order now to guarantee they have your personal favorites.

If keeping with the team colors or logo is your thing, Metropolitan Markets will have green and blue bagels, Seahawk cupcakes and Red Delicious apples sporting silver Seahawk logos and "Go Hawks" stickers. Ilse Westberg, Metropolitan marketing manager, says their most popular deli items will be their tailgate party platters and prawn trays.

Top Foods markets' spokesperson, Becky Skaggs, predicts their shoppers will want hot or cold ribs, three-foot subs and wing trays and dips. For dessert, the bakeries are offering Seahawk cupcakes.

West Seattle's Husky Deli owner Jack Miller says his most popular items are always sandwiches and meat and cheese trays, while Whole Foods' Andrew Roberts, prepared foods coordinator for the Northwest, sees chicken wings, salami and cheese platters and the quesadilla platters as the top sellers.

Sandwiches, subs, cheese and meat trays, ribs, shrimp and Seahawk cakes will likely be the big sellers at Safeway according to a spokeswoman, Cherie Myers.

At Larry's Markets expect to see a demand for their platter trays of cheese and meat, pot stickers, chicken wings and shrimp. Also popular will be their Italian puff-pasty sandwich tray, Rotello de Pizza, says Chuck Beebe , vice president of sales and marketing.
