Wednesday, January 4, 2006 - Page updated at 12:00 AM Cocktailing BarbapapaThe place: Sambar, 425 N.W. Market St., Seattle, 206-781-4883 Quote: "It's almost like two drinks for one price." — bartender Michael Getz The scene: We were tempted by the Gingerini — it tastes like ginger candy! — but chose the Barbapapa ($10) because we couldn't resist the floating pinkness. With its dollop of rhubarb sorbet, the Barbapapa is like the root-beer float of cocktails. And since the sorbet dissolves as you drink it, changing the flavor by the time it goes bottoms up, the Barbapapa seemed the perfect choice for a couple of fickle girls like us. Besides, when else is it acceptable to dig into a cocktail with a tiny spoon? (Barbababy: "Someone's been drinking my cocktail and they drank it all up!") Sambar boasts an inventive cocktail menu — its mojito is turned upside down with shiso leaf and dubbed "Moshiso." Barbapapa, with its pinkness and lime taste and general girly sensibility, is a good choice for the Cosmo-drinking set. Indeed, Carrie Bradshaw & Co. would be right at home in the sexy little joint that is Sambar. Tucked behind the romantic French restaurant Le Gourmand in Ballard, this neighborhood bar is worth seeking out even if it's nowhere near your neighborhood. And to nab a spot on the cozy outdoor terrace this summer, you might as well get in line now.
