Review: 'Ham for the Holidays' serves up a hilarious platter of satirical song and comedy

Is there any gig worse than the one Captain and Shenille are playing these days?

Hired to serenade confused, ticked-off travelers at the Tukwila light-rail station, on the new line to SeaTac, the retro-cheesy pop duo is charged with breaking the bad news: the airport is still a vigorous walk and a shuttle ride away.

As played by the inimitable Seattle jesters Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt, in the hilarious new (and ninth!) edition of their seasonal show "Ham for the Holidays," this pair of showbiz bottom feeders keep dishing out loony tunes, stupid jokes and peppy good cheer.

Like so many signature Koch and Platt characters, they haven't a clue how ludicrous they are. But we do. We also know the squabbling country-music mother-daughter act The Spudds will make a mess of a trailer-park talent show. And that the rainbow- vested, four-member Sequim Gay Men's Chorus is a nest of singing vipers.

Koch and Platt (aka Dos Fallopia) always amuse, but in this latest winter mélange of skits and songs, directed by Koch's dependable bro David Koch, the laughs just keep a-comin'.

The duo is abetted by two mirthsome in-and-out-of-drag co-conspirators: piano man D.J. Gommels and Michael Oaks. And by some audience members pressed into service for a wacky version of the game show "Family Feud," in which Platt and Koch are dead ringers for Edith and Archie Bunker.

Be aware: the humor in "Home for the Holidays: Lard Potion No. 9" gets very broad and bawdy (in a gay- and straight-friendly way). And Platt's bit as a dead-serious, green-haired poet spouting haiku is such a stitch, it might just be hazardous to your health.
