Radio stations party on with holiday concerts

Radio-station parties take the stages at The Moore, with The Mountain's Winter Warmth benefit, and at WaMu Theater, with KISS' Jingle Bell Bash.

Holiday music comes in many flavors — the shlocky, the comforting, the irreverent, the carols and classics, the radio bashes.

It's a radio bash that looms large this weekend, as the indie-friendly Seattle station The Mountain (KMTT 103.7 FM) hosts its Winter Warmth benefit concert on Sunday at the Moore Theatre.

The show (which will raise funds for Seattle's worthy First Place School for homeless children) is a triple treat for fans of intelligent young troubadours with a semi-acoustic vibe.

Topping the bill: The region's celebrated singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, and the socially committed charmer Brett Dennen.

The third attraction, Grace Potter (with her band the Nocturnals) may not be as well-known — yet — as Dennen and Carlile. She should be.

Based in Vermont, Potter has the kind of lived-in, bluesy vocal style that brings to mind Bonnie Raitt (one of her heroes), with some Kim Carnes-esque sexy scratchiness in there, too.

Her original songs can delve into deep-down heartache, or blue-eyed gospel. But the blond, willowy multi-instrumentalist can also rock solid with her band in fine old roadhouse fashion.

The Mountain's Winter Warmth Concert. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, The Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., Seattle, $25-$45; 877-784-4849 or www.stgpresents.org.)

Deck the Hall Ball

107.7 The End's Deck the Hall Ball has a strong lineup this year — which may be why it's sold out. On the agenda for the Dec. 15 event: Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars, Metric, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and Seattle's own Visqueen.

Deck the Hall Ball, 5 p.m. Dec. 15, WaMu Theater, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle; sold out (for info: www.deckthehallball.com).

Jingle Bell Bash

If harder rock is your thing, local station KISS (106.1 FM) is holding its own seasonal party, the Jingle Bell Bash, at the WaMu Theater on Dec. 19. Hosted by Pete Wentz (of FallOut Boy), the rock-centric event features 10 bands, including Cobra Starship, We the Kings and All American Rejects.

The KISS Jingle Bell Bash, 4 p.m. Dec. 19, WaMu Theater, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle; $40 (800-745-3000, 866-448-7849 or www.ticketmaster.com.)
