'Catch Me if You Can' benefit night raises $10,000 for Compass Center

Last week's benefit performance of the new musical "Catch Me If You Can" at the 5th Avenue Theatre has raised $10,000 for The Compass Center, a Seattle social-service agency that assists homeless and low-income adults.

Last week's benefit performance of the new musical "Catch Me If You Can" at the 5th Avenue Theatre has raised $10,000 for The Compass Center, a Seattle social-service agency that assists homeless and low-income adults.

The theater and the show's producers donated $5 from every ticket sold to the center, in honor of former agency board member Teresa Butz. Butz, whose brother Norbert Leo Butz is a cast member of "Catch Me If You Can," was slain last month in her South Park home.

"Teresa was a caring and energetic member of the board of directors of the Compass Center," says Cindy Johnson, Compass's director of development. "Her legacy of caring for those who are homeless and disenfranchised has been strengthened by the outpouring of donations from around the country. Now hundreds of people are aware of the Compass Center, its programs and mission, and the value that Teresa placed on helping those for whom self-sufficiency and hope seems to be a dim reality."

An additional $6,054 was raised for the agency by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the Broadway company of the musical "Wicked," the Broadway company of a new revival of "Hair" and the Manhattan Class Company and Wicked LLC. Norbert Leo Butz was an original co-star of "Wicked."
