All aboard for Tacoma museum's annual Model Train Festival
The Model Railroad Festival takes place in Tacoma at the Washington State History Museum Dec. 26-Jan. 3.

Today-Jan. 3 (open New Year's Day) at the Washington State History Museum, 1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma; $6-$8, with ages 5 and under free (253-798-5877 or www.WashingtonHistory.org).It's full steam ahead at the Washington State History Museum. Grab your conductor's hat and check out the tracks at the annual Model Train Festival as the museum celebrates the golden age of railroads.
Nine model-train displays will be out for the public to view, including displays by LEGO, Playmobil, Mary's Big Circus, Mount Rainier N-Scale and the Tacoma Northwestern Model Railroad Club. Model-railroad enthusiasts will fall tracks over trains when they see the largest permanent layout in the state created by the Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers.
The festival is included with regular museum admission and takes place during regular museum hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, with Thursday nights free from 5 to 8 p.m.
